In the historic Borgo Valadier (dating back to the early 19th century) which extends along the Fiumicino canal and faces the moored boats, you will find the tiny Osteria dell’Orologio, right in the shadow of the tower of the same name.
The environment is very graceful and refined, even in its simplicity, and denotes elegance and aesthetic attention to detail, always remaining within the scope of functionality. There are few tables inside, but there are some in a small glass dehor outside the entrance.
The menu is very interesting with a collection of “seasoned” fish and a couple of tasting menus. The dishes are all fish cooked in various ways (raw, grilled, fried, soup, steamed, pan-fried) and always accompanied by unusual and intriguing components (pumpkin scapece, truffle, foie gras, chanterelles, grapes, Jerusalem artichokes, hazelnuts, lupins, etc.).
I remember an impeccable octopus alla diavola with lentils and radicchio and a prawn with mantis shrimp (shelled, pulpy and firm!), snails and pumpkin scapece that was truly exceptional both for the combinations with the perfect balance of all 5 primary flavours, and for the perfect execution.
The execution, in fact, for the dishes tasted is always of high school without flaws. The young chef Marco Claroni leads his team well, thus showing that he has both creativity and good taste in designing the dishes, and in having them executed.
The wine list is extensive and very interesting, with some Italian and French gems too.
The service is austere, but always impeccable, attentive and empathetic.
It’s really nice, time passes without you noticing and you leave having experienced the pleasure of living.
So a 100% Pleasure House.
